New Labour Codes - The Biggest Labour Reform In India
New Labour Codes - The Biggest Labour Reform In India
The Government of India has enacted four central Labour Codes. Once notified, these new codes will subsume 29 current central laws relating to wages, social security, occupational safety, and industrial disputes.
Expected to be implemented soon, the new Codes will have an impact on both an employer’s as well as employee’s obligations and compliances. To manage the compliances emanating from the change in Labour Codes, a system level change in policies and procedures is necessary for all organisations operating in India, irrespective of their size, operations or headquarters.
The Central Government and most of the States have already rolled out draft rules for industry comments. While the date of enforcement is expected to be announced soon, it is important to evaluate the impact and plan timely to optimise costs, ensure a smooth transition and effective compliance management.
